Venture philanthropy
Accelerating innovation in research, treatment and education to slow and stop Parkinson's disease.
A DIFFERENT
APPROACH
Miriax provides funding and consultancy support to promising Parkinson's disease projects with the goal of achieving measurable impact as well as financial sustainability for the project itself.
We explore opportunities for impact investment in the form of venture philanthropy, where returns can be either donated to charities promoting Parkinson's disease research or directly reinvested in new opportunities for Parkinson's disease research.
OUR
MISSION
Our mission is to:
-
assist the research and development of selected Parkinson’s disease therapies
-
accelerate the availability of those therapies
-
support and facilitate the generation of objective data on the development of Parkinson’s disease to enable more successful clinical trials.
PROJECT
AREAS
Our projects are mainly in the areas of medical and pharmacological research, drug verification through clinical trials, and the development of educational and training materials to develop stakeholders’ understanding of Parkinson’s disease.
PHILANTHROPY
PARTNER
Miriax provides ongoing, reliable income to the Parkinson's Research Foundation (PRF). Our targeted Parkinson’s projects meet PRF objectives and our profits are either donated to PRF or directly reinvested into new research opportunities.

CORE
ACTIVITIES
VENTURE PHILANTHROPY
Venture philanthropy and investment in medical research and education in the field of Parkinson's disease. These investments are subject to return funding agreements.
MANAGEMENT CONSULTING
Consulting activities to fast-track Parkinson's disease research and therapy development projects.
SCIENTIFIC ASSET MANAGEMENT
Scientific asset management to ensure projects have access to the required scientific equipment.
MIRIAX
STRATEGY
SUPPORT IN THE FORM OF INVESTMENT
Investments are set out in standard commercial form and specify that, should a project be successful, Miriax’s contribution will be returned with a premium.
However, Miriax is not a profit-driven organisation: all profits earned from its successful projects are reinvested into additional venture philanthropy opportunities or provided as donations to charities promoting Parkinson's disease research.
COMMITMENT TO EARLY-STAGE FUNDING
Miriax provides ongoing financial and consultancy support to Parkinson's disease projects during their early stages, subject to agreed milestones. During this time, Miriax aims to set up the financial sustainability of the project itself.
PROJECT PERFORMANCE IS CLOSELY MONITORED
Miriax places strong emphasis on measuring and evaluating the effectiveness and impact of each Parkinson's disease project.

MOOC
PROJECT
Our first project with the Tasmania Parkinson’s Project and the Wicking Dementia Research and Education Centre (initiatives of the University of Tasmania) is the development of a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) which will be a key communication and learning platform for people with Parkinson’s disease.
The Parkinson's MOOC, launched in February 2025, addresses the current dearth of quality information available to people with Parkinson’s disease by providing participants with in-depth knowledge about Parkinson's disease, its symptoms, treatments, and the latest research advancements.
The MOOC will also serve as an effective healthcare tool by enabling more sophisticated communication between people with Parkinson’s disease and healthcare professionals.
For more information and to enrol, see the Wicking Dementia Research and Education Centre website.
